Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev, currently ranked sixth in the ATP rankings, revealed in an interview with BetBoom Tennis that he was on the brink of amputation just before the Asian tournament series.
The 26-year-old, who won the mixed doubles gold medal at the 2020 Olympics and has claimed 16 ATP singles titles, underwent surgery following his participation in the 2024 US Open. Due to this surgery, Rublev withdrew from the ATP 250 tournament in Hangzhou, China, giving his spot to American Zachary Svajda, who is ranked 111th in the world.
After the US Open, I was preparing for China, and a couple of days before my departure, I needed an operation that could have led to amputation if not done in time. Fortunately, it all came to light in the first three to four hours, as after five or six, amputation would be necessary. In the end, everything was done in time, and it turned out better than expected. I'm glad I could come back quickly.

On September 30, Rublev concluded his participation in the China Open, losing in the quarterfinals to home player Bu Yunchaokete with a score of 5:7, 4:6.
