It seemed like the curtains would fall in Somerset’s pursuit of 151 set by Hampshire as the team needed 117 in 13 overs with half of the side in the dugout. However, Tom Abell, Ben Green, and the tailenders came with a different plan and eked out a win out of nowhere for the Somerset squad.
Joe Weatherley’s 70 led the charge for Hampshire who made a total of 150 runs after the team had an early wobble. The target of 151 looked far for Somerset as the team lost five wickets for just 34 in the seventh over. However, a determined Lewis Gregory and an in-form Tom Abell who scored fifty off 35 balls kept the chase alive. First, Gregory fell at 79, and then Tom fell at 103, his side needing a whopping 48 off 20 balls. This is when Ben Green hit three sixes in the innings to score 35 off just eighteen.
Then Chris Wood sent Ben Green to the dugout with Somerset still needing 12 off the last seven balls. In the last over, Josh Davey, the Player of the Match, struck a six and a four to complete a stunning win. Josh also took four wickets completing a fantastic day for him as he hit the winning runs.
