South African women began their ODI campaign against West Indies in an imposing manner beating them by 8 wickets with 63 deliveries to spare. West Indies made a paltry 153 after batting first and looked out of sorts throughout the game as South Africa didn’t face many problems while hunting down the total. Lizelle Lee won the Player of the Match award for her outstanding 91 runs innings.
West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first but lost the first two wickets just at the score of 12 runs in 10 overs as Hayley Matthews once again failed to score runs at the top. Then Deandre Dottin and Brittney formed a decent partnership of 58 runs as Dottin played an impressive 38 runs innings off just 36 deliveries, smoking seven boundaries. However, Sune Luus came to remove her at the score of 70, and then with the hosts at 85, Britney Cooper had to retire hurt denting West Indies’ progress. A dogged 39 runs innings by Kycia Knight carried them to a sub-par 153 as the innings got wrapped up at 46.4 overs. Then South African openers left the West Indies women no chance of a comeback after piling up 88 runs on the board before a cautious Laura Woolvardt fell after making a good-enough 36 runs. Sune Luus fell just in the next over but captain Dane van Niekerk and Lizelle Lee easily carried their team over the line with the scoreboard pressure next-to-nothing.
