Russians compiled a 2-1 scoreline to advance past the USA and make it to the Final of the Billie Jean King Cup. The Russians had to win the doubles for making it to the next round.
Russia’s Liudmilla Samsonova lost her first set 1-6 against USA’s Sloane Stephens. However, that didn’t deter her confidence and she regained her footing and took the next two sets 6-4, 6-3 to get Russia’s first win of the Semis.
Meanwhile, the most exciting game came between USA’s Danielle Collins and Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The game lasted a total of 162 minutes and in the end, the score read 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 in favor of Danielle. With the doubles to decide the course he Finals, the pair of Sasmsonova and Veronika Kudermetova won 6-3, 6-3 against Shelby Rogers and Coco Vandeweghe.
