Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) chairman Alexander Mutai has admitted that the ongoing leadership feuds at the Union threaten to derail the successes they have had on the pitch and has called on his fellow board members to a truce.

There has been leadership squabbles at the Union with Mutai being at the centre of the storm and the squabbles have threatened to destabilize the national teams.

Speaking exclusively to Telecomasia.net, Mutai is hopeful that the mess will be solved soon, so that full focus will only be on improving matters on the pitch.

We have to follow the rules and this political turmoil is not good for rugby. I am looking forward to clean up and ensure that things are running well. We have sponsors back and they are right behind us. There will always be resistance but we will clean up. The political turmoil is a distraction and a waste of time and resources but hopefully we will have it done and dusted soon.

Currently, the Kenya Sevens men’s and women’s team are in Los Angeles. The men’s team is playing the play-offs to determine whether they play in the top tier next season while the women’s team is battling for a first ever qualification into the main series.

Mutai says the teams have had commendable success this season, thanks to his leadership, and the turmoil only threatens to derail their ambition.
