Artem Volevich, the middle blocker for Zenit Kazan, shared his thoughts with Telecomasia.net about the recent successes of the French national volleyball team, as well as reflected on the showdown between the Russians and the French in the Tokyo Olympic final.
– The French national team has won the last two Olympics. Are they the strongest volleyball team currently?
– It's important to understand that they were stronger during specific periods. This is a proof of the team’s spirit and their preparation for the Games. They didn’t start their journey for the medal confidently both in Tokyo and in Paris. They were actually on the brink of elimination in Japan. But we somewhat helped them when we lost a group match. You could say we brought them back to life. To be fair, that game wasn't very crucial for us. But as the playoffs progressed, they started to gain momentum.
They showed exceptional quality of play in the final. We also looked good, but they were also lucky. It happened the same exact way in Paris.They started to destroy their opponents in the playoffs. We could have easily lost 0:3. The French were true beasts, tearing their rivals apart. And they did it spectacularly.
In the final of the 2022 Olympics, the Russian Olympic Committee faced off against the French national team, with the French winning 3:2. In the final of the home Olympics in Paris, the French volleyball team beat Poland 3:0.
