Raul Gomez, a forward for the Spanish national futsal team, shared his experiences in an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net about his time playing for KPRF in the Russian league.
– You spent a year in the Russian league playing for the Moscow club KPRF. Can you tell us what that was like?
– It was an incredible experience. Before that, I had never played outside of Spain. I was given the chance to step out of my comfort zone and try something new in a city and country so different from Spain. I didn't know the language, local customs, or the culture. But I decided that it would be an interesting adventure.
– What did you think of Moscow? Did the city feel crazy?
– I arrived in Russia in the midst of the pandemic. It was challenging: there was a curfew, quarantines, and many places were closed or had restrictions. I spent almost all of my free time at home, so I didn’t get to see much or explore the city.
– Be honest, did you earn more at KPRF than at Movistar Inter?
– Yes, I made more money at KPRF. But money isn’t everything. It would have been tough for my wife in Moscow since she doesn’t know the language, and while I had an interpreter, it would have been harder for her. Plus, the climate in Russia is colder, and it’s better for a child to grow up in warmth.
Gomez joined KPRF in 2020 and helped lead the team to a championship victory that year, scoring in the winning final against Gazprom-Yugra. He later transferred to Movistar Inter, the strongest club in Spain.
As for the current season of the BETCITY Futsal Super League, KPRF currently holds the second position.
