River with Crocodiles Deemed Unsuitable for Olympic Games in Australia Read More

The international rowing federation (World Rowing) announced that the Fitzroy River in Queensland, Australia, inhabited by crocodiles, has been declared unsuitable for hosting competitions during the 2032 Olympics.

World Rowing stated that while the Fitzroy River is appropriate for training, it hasn’t undergone the technical justification for confirming its suitability for national or international level competitions.

Fairness and safety are paramount to any venue hosting events of this magnitude and importance, and any rowing course used for international racing must comply with World Rowing’s Rules of Racing and technical requirements.

World Rowing also assured that it will continue to work with all key stakeholders to find a solution that assures the fairness of the competition and the safety of all athletes and officials.
