The doctors inserted chest tubes to drain fluid from the left lung of Russian figure skater Roman Kostomarov, the 2006 Olympic champion in ice dancing, according to Telegram-channel 112.
The chief doctor of the Kommunarka clinic, Denis Protsenko, previously told AIF edition that the figure skater was breathing on his own for several days. It was also noted that the organ dysfunction in the last 48 hours began to resolve.
The athlete was hospitalized on January 10 with a severe form of pneumonia. Kostomarov was later connected to a ventilator and ECMO. In late January, the media reported that the figure skater had limb necrosis, and doctors decided to amputate his both feet, and later his fingers.
Earlier, a source in conversation with the publication Sport24 denied information that Kostomarov had been reconnected to the ventilator and ECMO systems.
