Iranian intelligence recently dismantled the largest online illegal gambling network targeting its citizens. The network, reportedly operated from the UK, utilized over 50 websites for illegal bets, controlling 35,000 bank accounts and 1200 payment gateways.
Details on Iranian players' bets were not disclosed, but the operation to crush the network, called Nitro Bet, spanned 14 months. Authorities arrested five managers responsible for the network, charged with running online gambling sites and handling illegal funds.
Local players involved may face consequences, as gambling is prohibited in Iran, with penalties of up to 6 months in prison or 74 lashes for offenders.
