Russian figure skater Roman Kostomarov needs another amputation, but doctors are hesitant to perform it because of the risk of the athlete's heart stopping. This is reported by Izvestia, citing a source familiar with the situation.
It is emphasized that at the moment Kostomarov is not ready for another surgical intervention. His system is fighting sepsis, but it is not strong enough to overcome it.
Previously, Match TV reported that the figure skater may soon be disconnected from the ventilator, as his condition has significantly improved.
Recall that since January 10, skating champion Kostomarov had been in the hospital with a severe form of pneumonia. After being connected to the ECMO machine for a long time, the Russian skater suffered necrosis, and the doctors had to resort to amputations of his feet and fingers.
Kostomarov is an Olympic champion, two-time world champion and three-time European champion.
