Olympic figure skating champion Roman Kostomarov will undergo a partial amputation of three fingers on his hand, according to the Federal News Agency.
Kostomarov previously had his left foot amputated due to necrosis and sepsis. It was reported that doctors managed to avoid amputation of the right foot by scraping off the dead tissue.
"We can clean up necrosis on the other fingers by removing the dead tissue. Removing dead tissue is not considered an amputation by surgeons. But this is the situation for now - unfortunately, things may get worse in the process," the source reported.
Recall, on January 10, Match TV reported that 46-year-old Kostomarov was hospitalized in serious condition with signs of unilateral pneumonia and influenza.
The media wrote that the athlete was put in a medically induced coma and connected to ECMO and artificial respiration machines.
