Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich says she is looking forward to breaking the course record at the Chicago Marathon. The 30-year-old seasoned marathoner believes she is in good form to break the record set by Sifan Hassan in winning the race in 2023, when she clocked 2:13:44.

If she manages to run a course record time, she will also record the best time in her life. Her current personal best stands at 2:14:18, which was set on the same course in Chicago in 2022.

The 2019 World Champion Chepngetich talked to Telecomasia.net ahead of the race:

I am going for a course record at the Chicago Marathon, which will also improve my time. I am hoping that the weather will be good and I will run a smooth race. The field is strong and I have prepared well too. I am here to compete and fight until the finish line.

She has won the race in Chicago twice, in 2021 and 2022 and finished second last year, behind Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan in her record run. Despite expectedly stiff competition, the Kenyan is confident of running a fast time and clinching her third title.

It is my dream to win it a third time after I finished second last year. My preparation has been really good, and I feel strong and confident ahead of the race.

She expects stiff competition from compatriots Joyciline Jepkosgei and Stacy Ndiwa, as well as American Betsy Saina.
