India had trouble against the short-pitch bowling of Darcie Brown who ran through the top order restricting India to 225. A late flurry by Jhulan Goswami and Richa Ghosh made sure that India has something to defend in what has been a start-stop effort. Debutant Hannah Darlington also claimed two wickets and now Jhulan Goswami-led bowling attack has the work cut out.
Shefali Verma once again showed her susceptibility to the short ball and fell after making just 8 runs. Like, Verma, Smriti also fell to Darcie Brown when the score read 38. Debutant Yastika Bhatia played a gutsy 38 runs innings adding 77 runs for the third wicket with Mithali Raj. But once she fell, India suffered a collapse and India lost five wickets for 63. This collapse also included the wicket of set Mithali Raj who top-scored with 61 runs off 107 balls.
However, Jhulan Goswami and the wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh provided a huge lift adding 45 runs in 40 balls to close out the innings. Ghosh made 32 off just 29 while Jhulan bagged 20 runs. Darcie Brown highlighted the Australian bowler effort, claiming four for 33 in nine overs.
