Australian UFC fighter Alexander Volkanovski has expressed his anticipation for a heavyweight matchup between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, the interim champion of the division.
Jones is set to face Stipe Miocic on the night of November 17 at UFC 309, taking place in New York (USA).
Volkanovski stated on his YouTube channel:
If you want to be a Heavyweight champion, you want to claim that crown. It’s going to be hard to convince me you’re defending champ if you don’t fight Tom Aspinall while he’s the interim champ. Does Jon Jones even need to do this? No. He’s already got an incredible legacy. But if you want to claim the Heavyweight division, say you were a proper double champ — you gotta fight Tom Aspinall!
Jones last fought against Ciryl Gane in March 2023 at UFC 285. In that match, which ended in the first round, Jon won via submission, securing the UFC heavyweight championship title. His record has 27 wins and just one loss.
Aspinall last stepped into the octagon against Curtis Blaydes in July this year at UFC 304. This fight also ended in the first round, with Tom winning by knockout. He currently holds a record of 15 wins and three losses.
