UFC flyweight champion, Brazilian fighter Alexandre Pantoja discussed his victory over Australian Steve Erceg and shared his feelings about it.
Recall, on May 5 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) at UFC 301 Pantoja won by unanimous decision.
Pantoja said at the UFC 301 post-fight news conference:
I’ve always said this division is entirely tough. You can take the 10th-ranked guy and have him fight against the champion and you guys saw exactly that tonight. This division is all about work. You can’t move up in the rankings just by talking. I’m really happy to see this. I always say the only way someone is going to kill me in there is when they allow people to go in there with guns. As long as I’m breathing, I’m going to be fighting back. I did expect the fight to end sooner. But again, the Australian guy is very tough. He’s going to be very tested in this division.
Pantoja, 33, previously stepped into the octagon in December 2023 at UFC 296, defeating Brandon Royval by unanimous decision. He has 29 wins and five losses on his record.
Erceg, 28, had his previous fight in March 2024 at UFC Fight Night 238, defeating Matt Schnell by knockout in the second round. He has 12 wins and two losses to his name.
