Former UFC middleweight champion American fighter Sean Strickland is threatening to leave the promotion if he is not granted a rematch with current division champion Dricus Du Plessis.

Bloody Elbow quoted Strickland as saying:

The UFC fans want me and Dricus to settle it. Dricus wants to settle it. We all know I fought in a dirty liberal country who f**ked me. Dana knows it. The UFC knows it. IF IT WAS ANYONE ELSE ON THE ROSTER THE REMATCH WOULD HAPPEN! If that isn’t for me idk boxing…

Strickland and Du Plessis fought in January 2024 at UFC 297. In that fight, Sean was defeated by split decision and lost the middleweight championship belt. Strickland previously stepped into the octagon against Israel Adesanya in September 2023 at UFC 293. That fight went the full distance and ended in Sean's favor with a unanimous decision. He has 28 wins and five losses on his record.
