Former UFC double champion Canadian Georges St-Pierre told how his negotiations for a fight under the rules of boxing against Floyd Mayweather broke down.
St-Pierre told YouTube channel Covers:
He flew on a private plane, we had dinner. He said it was a boxing fight in an octagonal ring. It was like, 'Okay, but what are the rules? What's the compromise?', Oh, it's an octagonal ring and you get to do spinning backfists. Well, it's not really a fair compromise. Can I kick myself? No, he will never accept that. I said, 'Okay, no above-the-belt kicks?' No, that will never work. Can I throw it down? “Oh, he never wants to go to the floor!” I'm not saying to go to the ground. I say throw him down, take him down, and then we'll get back up. He says 'No, no'… (at that point) forget it. It's a trap, I'm not that stupid…
St-Pierre, 42, last fought in November 2017 at UFC 217, defeating Michael Bisping with a third-round choke hold. St-Pierre made his professional ring debut in January 2002 against Ivan Menjivar at UCC 7 - Bad Boyz. This confrontation ended with Georges winning by technical knockout in the first round. He has 26 wins and two losses on his account.
The 46-year-old Mayweather's last fight in the professional ring was against former UFC champion in two divisions Conor McGregor in August 2017. In this confrontation, Floyd won by technical knockout in the tenth round. He has 50 wins (27 by knockout) without a single defeat on his record.
