Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou of Cameroon explained why he decided to sign with the PFL. Although Asian promotion ONE also offered the fighter a contract:
A couple days after [my first meeting with the PFL], they made a proposal. When he made the structure of the proposal, I looked at it and thought it was good. At that time I was like, ‘Why rush into anything, take some time’, no, I didn’t sign. Then, we got to Chatri [ONE president]. Chatri reached out, we talked, same thing. A couple of days [go by] and they send their own contract. But, when I was putting the contract next to the PFL one, it was day and night… Yeah, [the PFL’s was better].
Ngannou will step into a boxing rules bout against WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury on October 28 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Ngannou last fought against Ciryl Gane in January 2022 at UFC 270. In that confrontation, Francis won by unanimous decision of the judges. He has 17 wins and three losses on his record.
