Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua announced his career end following his loss to Ukrainian Ihor Potieria at UFC 283.

The fight ended in the fourth minute of the fight. Potieria knocked Rua down, after which he executed a successful takedown, the referee intervened. During a post-fight interview, the Brazilian announced he was ending his career as a fighter.

This is the third defeat for the 41-year-old Rua. In May 2022, at UFC 274, he lost to Ovince Saint Preux by split decision. In November 2020, at UFC 255, Rua lost to Paul Craig by TKO in the second round. Mauricio has 27 wins and 14 losses under his belt.

The 26-year-old Potieria rehabilitated himself after his July 2022 loss to Nicolae Negumereanu at UFC 277. Ihor has 20 wins and three losses under his belt.
