In the main event of UFC 280, held on October 22 in Abu Dhabi, Russian Islam Makhachev and Brazilian Charles Oliveira met in a lightweight title fight.
The fight was stopped in the second round and ended in Makhachev's favor by a choke hold. Thus, he became the new UFC lightweight champion.
In February of this year, Makhachev appeared in the octagon during the UFC Fight Night 202 tournament. That time the Russian fighter defeated the American athlete Bobby Green by TKO in the first round. Now Islam has 23 wins and one loss on his record.
Oliveira fought at UFC 274, which took place last May against the U.S. representative Justin Gaethje. In that fight, Charles scored an early victory, choking his opponent in the first round. The Brazilian now has 33 wins and nine losses under his belt.
