UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has agreed to a rematch with the promotion's welterweight champion Alex Volkanovski of Australia.
Volkanovski posted a video on his YouTube channel, showing a snippet of the conversation with Makhachev and his team.
Volkanovski: Shall we do it again?
Islam: Sure.
Volkanovski: Maybe in Abu Dhabi. You deserve to fight there, it's my turn to be booed.
Some time later, Volkanovski brought up the fight again as he was taking pictures with Islam's team, "Will there be a rematch?"
Makhachev: Yes, why not?
Makhachev's manager: It's time for Abu Dhabi.
Volkanovski: Yes, that would be fair.
Makhachev and Volkanovski fought on February 12 in the main event of UFC 284, held in Perth, Australia. In this fight, which lasted the whole distance, Islam won by unanimous decision of the judges.
Recall that the UFC tournament in Abu Dhabi takes place in October. At the last UFC Abu Dhabi event Makhachev won the UFC lightweight title after he stopped Brazilian lightweight Charles Oliveira with a choking submission in the second round.
Last February, Makhachev faced Bobby Green of the United States in the UFC Fight Night 202 tournament. In this confrontation, Islam won by TKO in the first round. He has 24 wins and one loss on his record. Volkanovski has 25 wins and two losses.
