Newly crowned UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones will make his first title defense against former division champion Stipe Miocic this July.
Recall, Jones defeated Frenchman Ciryl Gane in the main event of UFC 285 and won the vacant heavyweight title. After the fight, Jones asked the audience in the stadium if they wanted to see him fight Miocic. After a standing ovation, it was announced that the fighters would meet this summer.
Jones defeated Dominick Reyes by unanimous decision of the judges at UFC 247 in February 2020. At UFC 239 in 2019, Jones defeated Thiago Santos by split decision. The American has 27 wins and one loss under his belt.
Miocic last entered the Octagon against Francis Ngannou in March 2021 at UFC 260. That fight, which was stopped in the second round, ended with a knockout loss to Stipe.
