Former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan of Russia commented on his defeat to Georgia's Merab Dvalishvili.

Yan and Dvalishvili fought on March 12 in the main event of the UFC Fight Night 221 tournament. In that confrontation, Petr was defeated via unanimous decision.

Saturday was my fight, and I lost! It's a shame, it hurts to realize what happened, but it can't be undone! On the whole I was satisfied with the training. There were a few factors that slowed me down, I thought about them but I believed I could do it! I flew to the U.S., took a couple of days to recover from the flight and started working. I felt the need for physical therapy! I worked every day for a week and I believed everything would be okay.

"A week before the fight I started the weight cut. I couldn't think about canceling the fight because I was already on the stage! I think it was obvious that I couldn't move or punch! I had to be strong! I know I can and do better! I need a reset, gotta make some readjustments!" - Yan wrote on social media.

Yan is now on a streak of three straight losses. In October 2022, at UFC 280, Petr was defeated by a split decision by the judges against American Sean O'Malley.

Last April, as a part of UFC 273 tournament, Yan went to fight American Aljamain Sterling. The fight lasted the whole distance and ended with the defeat of Petr by split decision. He has 16 wins and five defeats on his record. Dvalishvili has 16 wins and four defeats on his record.
