On March 5, in the co-main event of UFC 285, Alexa Grasso of Mexico defeated Valentina Shevchenko of Kyrgyzstan to win the promotion's women's flyweight title.
Grasso won the fight by choking in the fourth round. Thus, the Mexican interrupted the four-year domination of Shevchenko in title fights. And also broke her streak of nine wins in a row.
Before that, Grasso fought Brazilian Viviane Araujo last October at UFC Fight Night 212, where Alexa won by unanimous decision. She has 16 wins and three losses under her belt.
Shevchenko went up against Brazilian Taila Santos at UFC Fight Night 275 in June, 2022. That fight lasted the whole distance and ended in favor of Valentina by a split decision of the judges. She has 23 wins and four losses on her record.
