Former UFC heavyweight title challenger, Dutchman Alistair Overeem commented on his decision to end his fighting career.
Overeem said on The MMA Hour show:
Absolutely not sad. It was just a realization. Because there was always going to come an end to my fighting career. If it wasn’t now, it might have been after the next fight, or maybe two more, but not any longer after. It’s over, and I’m also not interested in fighting anymore. I’ve had my change, it’s now whole different goals for different things.
Overeem last fought against Badr Hari in October 2022 at Glory Collision 4. Alistair initially won that confrontation by unanimous decision of the judges. But later the result of the fight was canceled, and the fight was declared a no contest because Overeem tested positive for doping a month after the fight.
Overeem left the UFC after losing to Alexander Volkov by technical knockout in the second round in February 2021. Alistair has 47 wins and 19 losses on his mixed martial arts record.
