Former UFC fighter Phil Baroni is suspected of killing his girlfriend. The woman was found dead the day before in a hotel, reports Tribuna de la Bahía.
According to U.S. police reports, Baroni, 46, beat his girlfriend, who had cheated on him. It is specified that the ex-fighter was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of his arrest. A criminal case was opened over the incident.
Baroni made his mixed martial arts debut in 2000 at VATV 9, beating John Hayes by TKO in the first round. He was immediately signed to the UFC, and defeated Curtis Stout at UFC 30 in his second professional fight in MMA. Between 2001 and 2005, Baroni fought in the UFC mostly. His win over Dave Menne at UFC 39 in 2002 is considered one of the greatest knockouts of all time. The 45-year-old fighter has 16 wins and 19 losses under his belt.
