On February 12, 2023, at UFC 284, lightweight champion Islam Makhachev will face Alex Volkanovski, the UFC featherweight champion.
Volkanovski leads the UFC rankings regardless of weight class, while Makhachev is in second place. Thus, for the first time in UFC history, there will be a fight between two of the best P4P fighters.
Makhachev won the lightweight title with a second-round choking victory over Brazil's Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 this past October. Islam has 23 wins and one loss under his belt.
Last July, Volkanovski was in the octagon against American Max Holloway at UFC 276. That fight ended in favor of Alex by unanimous decision of the judges. He has 25 wins and one loss on his record.
