Former UFC double champion Daniel Cormier in an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net commented on Islam Makhachev's victory against Dustin Poirier at UFC 302.
"Islam did a fantastic job. Listen, when talking about Islam, you always become a victim of your own expectations. He finished the fight early, but even if the match had gone the distance, Islam would have still won 4-1. It was a truly dominating performance. Islam has been showcasing perfect performances for so long that people really noticed the moments when Poirier was successful," Cormier said.
Islam showed that he can stand and strike with a highly dangerous striker and once again secured an early victory. I think Makhachev is falling victim to others' expectations. Islam is not Khabib. Khabib displayed such unconditional dominance that we never saw him in a tough spot. And people expect the same from Islam. But understand, he is not Khabib.
