ESPN US reports that coach and former UFC fighter James Krause, suspected of cheating at UFC Fight Night 214, has been working for an offshore bookmaker's office since 2019.
Recall that the tournament featured a suspicious bout between American Darrick Minner and Chinese representative Shayilan Nuerdanbieke. That night Nuerdanbieke won by TKO in the first round due to Minner's leg injury.
Shortly before the fight, a large sum of money was staked on this outcome. After that, Integrity, an organization that specializes in analyzing sports betting, began an investigation into the incident. Later, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) joined the case.
As it turned out, Krause, Minner's coach, has been balancing his day job with working for bookies for the past three years. Beginning in 2019, Krause worked as an agent for the offshore bookmaker ABCBetting, arranging registration for players on the site as well as directly accepting bets. Thus he orchestrated bets against his wards.
Currently, Derrick Minner and Jeff Molina are suspended indefinitely by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. If Krause is eventually proven guilty, he will likely have to end his coaching career.
The UFC press office stated that the organization now prohibits its athletes, relatives and their team members from betting on league fights.
