An inquiry into the boxing bouts during 2016 Rio de Janeiro found that the referees and judges compromised the boxing bouts. The same inquiry also revealed that it may have been the case during the 2012 London Olympics as well. The investigation headed by Richard McLaren termed the number of bouts to be fixed around eleven and labeled the informal structure of judging them as “compliant”. The report also found that in 2012, the then president of AIBA, Wu has been also active in fixing games for political agendas.
AIBA hired Professor McLaren because we have nothing to hide”. We will work to incorporate any helpful recommendations that are made. We will also take legal advice with regard to what action is possible against those found to have participated in any manipulation. There should be no place in the AIBA family for anyone who has fixed a fight.
