Vegas forward Kessel sets NHL record for consecutive games

Vegas Golden Knights forward Phil Kessel has surpassed defenseman Keith Yandle's record for consecutive NHL regular-season games.

Vegas defeated San Jose Sharks 4-2 on October 26 on the road. Kessel, 35, played his 990th consecutive career game.

Kessel's streak began Nov. 3, 2009, when he played for Toronto Maple Leafs. The forward is the holder of the "Iron Man" title, which is awarded to hockey players who have played more than 500 consecutive games in the NHL regular season. There are 25 athletes who have earned the title in league history.

Kessel previously played for Boston, Pittsburgh and Arizona. He has 958 points (399 goals + 559 assists) in 1,211 NHL games.
