A hockey player of the British Elite League team Sheffield Steelers has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter of Nottingham Panthers player Adam Johnson, who also played for Pittsburgh.

The suspect, who was detained on Tuesday, will be held in custody until the circumstances of the incident are investigated, the BBC reported.

Earlier there was information that Matt Petgrave, who delivered the killing strike with the skate, received threats on social networks.

The tragedy occurred on October 28, in the match of the championship of England. Johnson of Nottingham was injured in the collision: the opponent's skate cut his neck. The 29-year-old hockey player died in hospital from blood loss.

After the incident with Johnson, the NHL issued a statement recommending that league players always wear neck protection to avoid similar incidents.
