On August 11, Barcelona’s press service confirmed the departure of Sergi Roberto after 18 years with the club. It's worth noting that the player's contract expired on June 30, but he spent that time training individually, hoping for a new deal.
Reports previously indicated that the club had informed the 32-year-old Roberto that his contract would only be extended if they could adhere to La Liga’s salary cap regulations.
As a graduate of the club's academy, Roberto has been a member of the first team since 2010. Over his time with Barcelona, he has played in 373 matches, scoring 26 goals and providing 46 assists.
During his time with Barcelona, the midfielder has won the Spanish league title seven times and the Copa del Rey six times. In addition, he has lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy twice.
On Friday, August 9, Barcelona's press service announced the signing of RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo. According to media reports, the transfer fee was set at €62 million, with €7 million allocated for bonuses.
According to Marca, the captain's armband at the Catalan club is likely to be passed to German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen following Sergi Roberto's departure.
