Former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney told how he coped with mental health problems in his youth by drinking alcohol.
In 2004, at the age of 19, the forward joined the Red Devils, moving from Everton. Rooney played for the English powerhouse for 13 years, winning five English Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, the FA Cup and three League Cups.
Mundo Deportivo quotes the player as saying:
My release was alcohol when I was in my early 20s. I'd go home, and spend a couple of days at home and not leave the house. I'd drink almost until I'd pass out. I didn't want to be around people, because sometimes you feel embarrassed.
Wayne Rooney has been working as a manager of Birmingham since October 2023.
Earlier Rooney said that the main reason why he became a coach is his desire to lead Manchester United in the future.
