The trial against eight medical professionals held responsible by the prosecutor's office for the death of World Cup champion Diego Maradona has been postponed until March 2025, according to ESPN.

The delay was requested by three of the eight defendants, while the others agreed to it. The court hearing is now scheduled to begin on March 11.

Previously, the Argentine prosecutor's office stated that the eight medical workers who cared for Maradona exhibited negligence by leaving him without assistance and abandoning him. There are five doctors and three nurses who face prison sentences ranging from 8 to 25 years.

Originally, the trial was set to start on May 4, but it was moved to October 1 due to the need to address several matters before the hearings could commence. In the same ruling, the court denied a request from Maradona's heirs to move his remains from a private cemetery to a memorial built in his honor in downtown Buenos Aires.

In April 2021, a medical expert commission that investigated Maradona's death prepared a report for judicial authorities. The report concluded that the medical team’s behavior was inadequate, insufficient, and careless. The experts believed that Maradona did not receive the proper care and treatment, which could have contributed to his death.
