Chelsea defender and Brazilian national team defender Thiago Silva became the oldest field player who has ever played for the London club.
The player came on the field in the main squad and played the entire match against Newcastle (1:4) in the 13th round of the EPL when he was 39 years and 65 days old. Thus, Silva broke the achievement of Dick Spence, who in 1947 played for Chelsea at the age of 39 years and 57 days.
Only goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was older than the Brazilian, playing for Chelsea in May 2014 in a match against Cardiff when he was 41 years 7 months and 5 days old.
Silva has been playing for Chelsea since 2020. He has played 130 games for the Blues, scoring six goals and giving four assists. In 13 games of the current season, the Brazilian scored one goal. The Brazilian's contract with the club runs until the end of June 2024. The market value of the defender, according to Transfermarkt, is 2 million euros.
As part of Chelsea, Silva won the Champions League in 2020, as well as the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
Silva previously became the fourth player in the EPL to score at the age of over 39.
