The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has apologized to the football community for the sexist scandal involving former head of the organization Luis Rubiales.
The public apology letter says:
The Royal Spanish Football Federation, through its President, Mr. Pedro Rocha, considers it essential to ask for the most sincere apologies from all of world football. The RFEF wishes to express to the whole of society and to the whole of world football its deepest regrets for what has happened and which has tarnished our national team, our football and our sport.
Recall that Rubiales kissed the player of the Spanish national team Jennifer Hermoso during the ceremony of awarding the team with gold medals at the World Cup.
The situation caused a huge public outcry and a barrage of criticism against Rubiales. He was later forced to resign and step down as RFEF president, which he had held since May 2018.
The British publication Daily Mail has learned that FIFA insists on a long term suspension of Luis Rubiales. The maximum possible sentence for the 46-year-old manager will amount to 15 years.
