Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has refused to pay the players of the national team a bonus for their performance at the World Cup in Qatar because of inflation and economic problems in the country, writes AP.

A few hours earlier he announced that the Polish national team deserved a reward of 30 million zlotys for the best performance of the team at the World Cup in the last 36 years.

That decision was denounced by the Poles, who thought the money would be better spent on helping people affected by the rising cost of living. As a result, it was decided that the money would be invested in the education of children and the development of sports infrastructure.

The Polish national team was able to qualify for the round of 16 matches of the 2022 World Cup, finishing second in Group C with four points in three games. In the first round, the team of Czesław Michniewicz played a draw with Mexico (0-0), then defeated Saudi Arabia (2-0), but lost to Argentina (0-2). In the playoffs, the Poles lost to France (1-3) and left the tournament.
