Images have emerged showing the bloodied face of 17-year-old Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi following the team's UEFA Champions League match against Crvena Zvezda, which ended with a score of 5-2.
During the second half, the young Spaniard collided with Serbian team defender and captain Uroš Spajić, who struck Cubarsi in the face with his foot while attempting to clear the ball.
After this incident, Cubarsi was substituted for 19-year-old Barcelona academy player Sergi Dominguez. According to Spanish media reports, the young defender got around ten stitches for his injuries.
This season, Cubarsi has played 16 matches across all competitions, contributing one assist. The online portal Transfermarkt currently values the Spanish defender at 40 million euros.
Following this match, Barcelona have earned nine points and sit in sixth place in the group stage standings. Crvena Zvezda remains at the bottom, in 35th place, without any points.
In the next round, the Catalans will host Stade Brestois at home on November 26, while the Serbian team will play against Stuttgart at their own stadium a day later.
The victory against Crvena Zvezda allowed Barcelona to set a new club record for the most goals scored in the first 16 games of the season across all competitions.
