Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has praised Julian Alvarez for his significant contribution during his two seasons at the club. The Argentine player is set to move to Atletico Madrid in a transfer deal valued at up to 95 million euros (£81 million, $104 million).

The 24-year-old player cost City just £14 million when he signed from River Plate. Since then, he has enjoyed a meteoric rise, helping Argentina to World Cup and Copa America glory, as well as winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League at club level.

Alvarez scored 36 goals in 103 appearances for Manchester City. In Pep Guardiola's press conference on Saturday, before his team returned to action in the Community Shield against Manchester United, he praised the impact of Julian Alvarez.

"He has been two years here, we won everything together and his contribution has been massive. "He wanted to leave. He wanted a new challenge. Atletico Madrid is a top club in Spain...was a joy to work with him and hopefully he can find what he is looking for."
