The Pelé Foundation announced via social media that the name of the legendary footballer has been added to the Brazilian dictionary of the Portuguese language as a synonym of the word "the best".
At the same time, the dictionary added examples of the use of the name of Pelé in the assigned meaning. Examples include "he is the basketball Pelé," "she is the Pelé of the tennis world," and "she is the Pelé of Brazilian drama."
Pelé passed away after a long battle with cancer on December 29, 2022, at the age of 82. The legendary Brazilian remains the only football player in the world who managed to win the World Cup three times, in 1958, 1962 and 1970. On Pelé's account 1281 goals in 1363 games during his career.
