Forward for Atletico Madrid and the Netherlands national team Memphis Depay helped former Barcelona defender Dani Alves in posting bail of one million euros to secure his release from prison. This was reported by Dailysports.
According to sources, the Brazilian former footballer did not have access to this sum due to debts and frozen bank accounts. Depay, who grew close to Alves during their time at Barcelona in the 2021/22 season, helped his former teammate by contributing one million euros for bail.
It is worth remembering that Alves was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for the rape of a 23-year-old woman in Barcelona in December 2023. Additionally, he was handed a 5-year suspended sentence and ordered to pay €150,000 in compensation to the victim.
Despite being released, Alves had his passport confiscated, was required to report to local authorities upon request, and sent home until the sentence came into effect. Before his release, the Brazilian spent 14 months in detention. Various media outlets reported that the former footballer attempted suicide in March, but this information was later refuted.
Earlier, UOL reported that father of Al-Hilal and Brazil national team Neymar transferred €150,000 to Alves and hired a lawyer for him. The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation Ednaldo Rodrigues called the cases of Robinho and Alves a heinous chapter for local football.
