Kenya’s national team skipper Michael Olunga has promised that the team will offer a better performance this evening, when they face Cameroon in the return fixture of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Harambee Stars were thrashed 4-1 by the Indomitable Lions in the first leg played in Yaounde last Friday, and Olunga says they have learned their lessons to do better today in the return tie in Kampala, Uganda.
Olunga said, speaking to Telecomasia.net ahead of the game:
It was a tough learning curve of course, because we did not perform as well as we would have wished. We have to learn from those mistakes, rectify them, and play better than we did. We need to have a positive attitude and start the game strong from the opening minute. They are a strong team across all departments, but if we reduce the mistakes we make and do more from our end, we can do better.
The captain himself is a doubt for this evening’s match, having missed the final training session due to a slight strain on his thigh. However, the coaching team expects to make a final decision before the game on whether to include him or not. Olunga has just returned from injury.
At the same time, he believes that qualification to the Cup of Nations is still within reach.
The table is still open. The difference between the top three teams is not big and if we can try to get a good result against Cameroon, I believe we will be somewhere better ahead of the final two matches.
