On August 11, FC Barcelona's press service officially announced the departure of their homegrown player, who had been part of the first team since November 2010. Despite his contract expiring on June 30, the midfielder had hoped for a new deal, continuing his training on an individual regimen.

During his time with the Blaugrana, Sergi Roberto became a seven-time La Liga champion, a two-time UEFA Champions League winner, and a UEFA Super Cup holder. His market value is estimated at 2.5 million euros, according to Transfermarkt.

Earlier reports indicated that German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen may become the new captain of Barcelona for the 2024/25 season following Sergi Roberto's exit from the team.
