According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami, home club of the 37-year-old Argentine forward Lionel Messi, is set to receive an invitation from FIFA to participate in the Club World Cup scheduled for 2025.

The report indicates that the international football federation plans to award Inter Miami the sole spot allocated to the host country without waiting for the MLS champion to be determined. An official announcement on this matter is expected soon.

The tournament will take place in the summer of 2025 in the United States and will be the first-ever Club World Cup organized in a new format, featuring 32 clubs.

With just one round remaining in the regular MLS season, Inter Miami have already secured its position as the top club in the league, amassing 71 points from 33 matches. It is important to note that the MLS champion is decided through playoff matches.

Javier Tebas, president of La Liga in Spain, has reached out to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, suggesting the cancellation of the 2025 Club World Cup.

Messi has previously received a trophy for holding the record for the most trophies won in football history.
