Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has set a Madrid club record for the number of matches played after 35 years, Marca reports.

In the 14th Matchday of LaLiga of Real Madrid vs Cadiz (3:0), the Croat played his 161st match for Real Madrid after turning 35.

Thus, Modric surpassed goalkeeper Francisco Buyo, who played for Real Madrid from 1986 to 1997.

The Croatian midfielder has been playing for Real Madrid since 2012. Modric is a five-time UEFA Champions League winner, a silver and bronze medalist at the World Cup, and a Ballon d'Or winner.

This season Modric played 16 matches for Real Madrid in all tournaments, in which he made two assists. The current contract of the player with the club runs until the end of the season-2023/24.

Earlier Modric became the oldest player in the history of the El Clasico, and the match against Wales became the 1000th in the professional career of the Croatian midfielder.
