The Times reported that Liverpool have abandoned the idea of inviting Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso as head coach.
The Spanish specialist was considered one of the main candidates to replace Jurgen Klopp at the club. But due to the fact that Alonso remains at Bayer for at least one more season, the management of the Reds will have to switch to alternative candidates.
The Spaniard has been in charge of Bayer since October 2022, and his agreement with the club runs until the summer of 2024. At the time of signing the contract, the club was in the next to the last place in the Bundesliga standings. Under his leadership, the team improved its results and finished the season in sixth place.
Earlier Liverpool made a list of three candidates to replace the head coach of the team Jurgen Klopp.
