The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed, in collaboration with La Liga officials, that a special protocol will be implemented to address incidents of racism against players during matches.
This protocol will be activated in Spanish league matches, according to RFEF. When a referee receives information from players or safety coordinators about racist behavior from spectators, they will be required to make a specific gesture with their hands to pause the game and make an announcement over the stadium's public address system, urging the immediate cessation of any racist actions.
If such incidents occur again, the referee will temporarily suspend the match and instruct teams to head to the locker rooms, while repeated warnings about the cessation of racist behavior will be broadcast in the stadium. Should the behavior continue, the referee, in conjunction with the safety coordinator, will decide whether to stop the game permanently.
This protocol was approved by the International Football Federation (FIFA) at the organization's congress in Bangkok in May.
