Kenya’s Harambee Stars beat Namibia 2-1 to put their dreams of qualification to the Africa Cup of Nations firmly on their path, and midfielder Richard Odada has told Telecomasia.net that they needed to post a response after a dull draw in their first game against Zimbabwe.

Speaking exclusively after the match in Johannesburg, the midfielder said they were pushed on by the desire to perform better and the hunger to qualify for next year’s Cup of Nations.

We really needed to make a huge response especially with how much we were criticized after the first game. The people demand more from us and we also demand more from ourselves and we had to pull up our socks and do better. In the second half, we knew we only had 45 minutes to make a difference and we did so.

Odada, who plays his club football in Scotland said

The midfielder, who has also previously played in the United States with Philadelphia Union hopes that the team can secure both the AFCON qualification, and a dream place at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, which he says will be like a dream come true for him.

We have the hunger, we have the desire and everyone wants to go for both qualifications. We are very much in contention for the World Cup and now the AFCON as well and we will do all we can

Richard Odada

The next round of AFCON qualifiers will be played next month.
